WITHOUT A CROWN ISSUE II
Beyond Photography features in zine Without a Crown Issue II with the Flowers series and Flowers in collaboration with Angela Allison. ZWaC is a collaboratively run non-profit project bringing free bi-weekly zines based on open call submissions from artists globally. The zine is a political project and utilises collaboration and art as a way to communicate ideas that aren't regularly discussed in mainstream media. Read their statement below.
"The media adopts an attitude of terror, misinformation and mass panic, systematically directing the interest of the citizens in the numbers and statistics of the pandemic without mentioning other issues."
In the midst of a crisis, governments are legislating anti-democratic measures against acquired human rights, anti-social and anti-labor actions based on the inability of the world to react actively. The opportunity to implement unpopular changes arises, constitutions are disregarded, overnight legislation acts are secretly voted only to be announced as a necessary step to maintain “normality” and “stability” the next day. Education, work and consequently the whole reality is concentrated and adapted in a two-dimensional electronic effigy of what it previously was. The media adopts an attitude of terror, misinformation and mass panic, systematically directing the interest of the citizens in the numbers and statistics of the pandemic without mentioning other issues. The focus is on individual responsibility while the state bears all the blame on you. The police and the army get increased power due to the emergency situation. Because we believe in the power of the collective reaction we cannot let these issues go unmentioned. As artists we would like to invite you to submit your reactions, in the form of artworks, to our biweekly zine.
Zine Without a Crown is a collaboratively run non-profit project. It serves as a platform assembling the reactions of artists of various fields united under similar ideals. It is based on an open call that all artists are welcome to participate. Except of organising and assembling the zine we also contribute.
The zine is digital but a physical copy also exists and is printed upon request for the cost of printing only [contact through facebook for more information on physical copies].
We are proud to be a part of this new project which critically analyses the media landscape whilst providing artists with a platform to raise their visibility to new audiences.
